EFASOM organizes forums and seminars as strategic platforms to mobilize civil society actors and advocate for government action:
Girls Education Forum in Mogadishu, Somalia, on 24-25 February 2025
EFASOM supported by the Education Out Loud, successfully organized a 2-day girls education forum in Mogadishu, Somalia, on 24-25 February 2025. The forum brought together youth leaders, educators, and the civil society to address the barriers to gender equality in education and explore strategies to promote equal opportunities for girls. The forum aimed to create an inclusive platform for dialogue, raise awareness about the challenges girls face in accessing education, and inspire actionable solutions to advance gender equality in education. Through presentations, group work, and panel discussions, participants shared insights, best practices, and innovative approaches to empower girls and transform educational systems. Additionally, the forum emphasized the crucial role of youth in promoting girls’ education by advocating for policy changes, raising awareness, mentoring younger students, and fostering community engagement to break down barriers and ensure equal educational opportunities for all.
These events serve multiple purposes:
1. Strengthening Civic Engagement – By bringing together civil society organizations, activists, and community leaders, EFASOM fosters collaboration and collective action to address pressing social, educational, and governance challenges.
2. Advocating for Policy Change – Forums provide an opportunity to present research, case studies, and community voices to policymakers, urging them to implement or reform policies that support education, governance, and human rights.
3. Holding the Government Accountable – Through dialogue and public discussions, these platforms pressure government institutions to fulfill their responsibilities, ensuring transparency and responsiveness to community needs.
4. Raising Awareness – By engaging stakeholders, including the media, EFASOM amplifies critical issues that affect marginalized communities, particularly in education, governance, and social justice.
5. Capacity Building – Seminars equip civil society actors with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to enhance their advocacy efforts, strengthen leadership, and effectively engage with government structures.
6. Encouraging Policy Dialogue – These gatherings facilitate constructive discussions between civil society and government representatives, fostering mutual understanding and paving the way for collaborative solutions.
